King of Bashan, the territory beyond the Jordan and the Jarmut River. His defeat by the Israelites became famous in the annals of the conquest of the Holy Land, being the subject of speeches and poems in later times (Deut. 31:4; Josh. 2:10; Neh. 9:22; Ps. 135:11).

Bashan contained 60 fortified cities and a large number of unwalled towns (Deut. 3:1-4; Josh. 13:11, 31).

Og was the last representative of a race of giants, the Rephaim. His bed (also translated sarcophagus) measured 4.5 m. long and 2 m. Wide; his fame lasted for many centuries (Ps. 135:11; 136:20).
