City of Benjamin (Neh. 11:35), situated on a great plain (Neh. 6:2). A Benjamite named Shemed built or rebuilt this city (1 Chron. 8:12); some of its inhabitants returned from the deportation in Babylon (Ezra 2:33; Neh. 7:37). Identified with Kefr ‘Ana, about 11 km inland, east-southeast of Joppa.
