PADAN-ARAM
(Heb.: “Aram plateau”).
A cultivated district of upper Mesopotamia, where was the city of Nahor, to which Terah and his family emigrated when leaving Ur of the Chaldeans (Gen. 10:31, 32; 25:20).
From there came Rebekah, Leah and Rachel, the wives of Isaac and Jacob (Gen. 25:20; 28:2-7; 31:18; 33:18; 35:9, 26; 46:15). In Gen. 48:7, the original says only Padan.
