PIRATON
Mount city of the Amalekites, in Ephraim. Abdon the judge, and Benaiah the hero of David, were Piratonites (Judg. 12:13-15; 2 Sam. 23:30; 1 Chron. 27:14). Bacchides fortified it (1 Mac. 9:50; Ant. 13:1, 3). Robinson gives a plausible identification: Fer’ata, on a hill, about 12 km west-southwest of Shechem.
