PISGAH
“part, division.” The part of the Abarim mountain range that was near the northeastern end of the Dead Sea (Deut. 34:1; 3:27; 32:49).
The Salt Sea (Dead Sea) bathed the foot of Pisgah (Deut. 3:17). From the top you could see the desert (Num. 21:20). Balak and Balaam arrived at the camp of Zophim, near the summit (Num. 23:14), which was called Nebo.
From this height a large part of Canaan could be seen, west of the Jordan; It is from there that Moses contemplated the Promised Land (Deut. 3:27; 34:1-4). (See NEBO.) Pisgah was on the southern border of the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites (Josh. 12:2, 3).
In the time of Eusebius, the mountainous region neighboring Mount Peor was still called Phasgo. The peak named Ras Siaghah, 31° 46′ N, 35° 43′ E, is probably the location.
