QUAIL

QUAIL

Migratory bird that arrives in Palestine in March, in large flocks, from the south. The Israelites providentially had great abundance of them to feed themselves in the desert (Ex. 16:12, 13; Num. 11:31-34).

It is the smallest of the partridges; flies quickly downwind; but if it changes direction, or if the birds have become exhausted by a long flight, they fall to the ground stunned and can be captured in large numbers.
