RABSARIS

RABSARIS

Expression that according to some linguists is derived from ac. “rab sha rêshu”, “he who is at the head.” Modifying the second and third terms would have given Heb. “sãrîs”, “eunuch”. Official title.

The Rabsaris appears in the armies of Sennacherib and Nebuchadnezzar (2 Kings 18:17; Jer. 39:3).

In Hebrew The name “rabbi sãrîsîm” is given to the official in Nebuchadnezzar’s court (Dan. 1:3) to whom the verses. Castilians call him “chief of the eunuchs”; It is possible that “rabsaris” and “rab sãrîsîm” designate the same position.
