Since there was no water, the people argued with Moses. God then ordered him to go to Horeb with the elders of the people, and to strike the rock.
Moses obeyed, and water immediately came out of the rock (Ex. 17:5, 6). Descending through the wadi, he arrived at the camp, quenching the thirst of the Israelites during their stay in the Sinai region.
Amalek attacked Israel at Rephidim. Moses interceded before God, with his arms raised until the sun went down, and then he set up in this place an altar to Jehovah, who had given victory to Israel, and who had been their banner (Ex. 17: 8-16) . Uncertain identification.
