RESEF

RESEF

(a) (Heb. “resheph”, “flame”).
Descendant of Ephraim, from the family of Beria, possibly the latter’s direct son (1 Chr. 7:25).

(b) (Heb. “rezeph,” “burning coal.”)
Place that Rabshakeh gloried in having destroyed (2 Kings 19:12; Is. 37:12). This is surely ancient Rasappa, which was the center of an Assyrian governor.

Probable identification: the current Rusãfah, which is located a few kilometers west of the Euphrates, on the road to Palmyra.
