SALARIED

SALARIED

These were distinguished from domestic servants, who were generally slaves. Salaried workers were hired by the day, and were paid at the end of the day.

An employee of the priest was not considered part of the family, and was not allowed to eat holy things, while slaves were considered part of the family (Lev. 19:13; 22:10; Deut. 15: 18; 24:14; Jb. 14:6; Mal. 3:5).

Hire earners are contrasted in the NT with the shepherd who owns the sheep (Mt. 20:1-8; Luke 15:17, 19; John 10:12, 13).
