SALATIEL

SALATIEL

“I have asked God.”
One of the sons of King Jeconiah (1 Chr. 3:17; Mt. 1:12).

In Lk. 3:27 he is listed as the son of Neri; in Esd. 3:2, etc., he is mentioned as the father of Zerubbabel; It seems that he was Zerubbabel’s uncle, or perhaps his grandfather (1 Chron. 3:17-19).

A plausible solution seems to be that, although Shealtiel was not the direct son of Jeconiah, nor the father of Zerubbabel according to the flesh, he was the legitimate heir to the throne of Jeconiah.

Upon the death of Shealtiel, the right to the crown passed to Zerubbabel. Salatiel is then the link between Jeconiah and Zerubbabel.
