SAMGAR

SAMGAR

Son of Anath (Judges 3:31). Shortly before the time of Deborah, the Israelites avoided the roads for fear of the Philistines, and crept along hidden paths (Judg. 5:6). Shamgar, attacking the oppressors, killed six hundred of them with an ox goad, and thereby contributed to the liberation of Israel (Judg. 3:31).
He does not bear the title of judge, and the chronology does not indicate any period associated with his name.
