SIHOR

SIHOR

(the Egyptian root of this term evoked the Heb. “shãhõr”, “black” or “muddy”, “muddy”). The Nile (Is. 23:3; Jer. 2:18). Its eastern arm, called Pelusiacus, was on the border of Egypt, towards Canaan (Josh. 13:3; 1 Chron. 13:5).

(See EGYPT RIVER.)
Many commentators consider the Sihor of these last two passages to be the torrent of Egypt, the wadi el-‘Arish. According to Brugsch, Sihor first designated a canal on the eastern border of Egypt; Its course was parallel to that of the Pelusiac arm.
