SON OF DAVID
This term became, on the occasion of the Old Testament prophecies announcing the firm and glorious dominion of a descendant of David (Is. 9:7; Jer. 23:5; Am. 9:11), one of the dictates most usual of the Messiah (Mt. 12:23; 22:41, 42; Mr. 12:35; Jn. 7:42), and as such it is applied repeatedly to Jesus (Mt. 1:1; 9:27; 15:22; 20:30, 31; 21:9, 15).
