STRAW
Wheat and barley straw were given as fodder to cattle, camels, donkeys, and horses (Gen. 24:25, 32; Judges 19:19; 1 Kings 4:28; Isaiah 11: 7).
The Egyptians mixed mud with straw to make bricks, in order to make them more compact and resistant.
The chaff is also a symbol of that which cannot withstand the test of God’s justice, as well as those who will be the object of His indignation in retribution and judgment (Is. 25:10; Mt. 3:12; Luke 3: 17; cf. “hay” in 1 Cor. 3:12, used of what is unworthy or useless in the life of the Christian).
The prophecies announce the dawn of the glorious era of Christ’s reign, in which “the lion will eat straw like the ox” (Is. 65:25).
