SWORD
This weapon, generally made of iron, was protected by a scabbard (1 Sam. 13:19; 17:51) and was frequently double-edged (Ps. 149:6), belted around the left belt (2 Sam. 20:8; Song 3:8).
It is the symbol: of war (2 Sam. 2:28; 12:10; Jer. 42:16), of divisions (Mt. 10:34), of violent words (Ps. 55:22), of the divine punishments (Num. 22:23; Rev. 2:17), of the penetrating word of God (Eph. 6:17; Heb. 4:12).
In a figurative sense the sword means war, and is usually accompanied by famine, pestilence and wild beasts (Lev. 26:25).
