SYROPHOENICIAN
A distinction was made between the Phoenicians of Syria and the Phoenicians of Libya, the latter originating from North Africa (Mark 7:26; cf. Mt. 15:22, where the woman is called Canaanite).
Towards the end of the 2nd century AD, the province of Syria was divided between Greater Syria and Phoenician Syria.
