TIRAS
Territory and its inhabitants, descendants of Japheth (Gen. 10:2). The ancients identified it with Thrace (Ant. 1:6, 1). The river Tiras and the town of the Tirites have also been proposed (Herodotus 4:51).
However, the most plausible identification seems to be with the Tyrsenoi (Tyrrhenians), who lived on the islands and coasts of the Aegean Sea (Herodotus 1:57, 94).
