TREASURY

TREASURY

Place where valuable objects and offerings and tithes of the town were kept. In Joseph. 6:19, 24 mentions “the treasure of the Lord,” which included the spoils of Jericho.

In Solomon’s Temple there was already room for the treasury from the moment of its inauguration (1 Kings 7:51; cf. 1 Chron. 28:11). The looting of treasures is mentioned in each invasion (1 Kings 14:25, 26; 2 Kings 24:13).

There was also a treasury in the Temple of Zerubbabel, to store the offerings and tithes (Neh. 13:4 ff.; cf. Mal. 3:10).

In Herod’s Temple there were thirteen trumpet-shaped offering brushes to collect the offerings of the worshipers, who were in the women’s courtyard. There was the treasury (cf. Jn. 8:20).
