UPPER ROOM

UPPER ROOM

Hebrew houses had a room at the top, generally built into the roof and usually connected by a private staircase to the rest of the rooms.

In some books of the Bible this expression is translated as “summer room”, “reception”, “chamber” or also “attic” (Judges 3:20-24; 1 Kings 17:19-23).

They were, in general, the most ventilated and comfortable rooms in the house and were used especially in summer (2 Kings 23:12), considered worthy of being dwellings for respected or distinguished guests (1 Kings 17:20). ; 2 Kings 4:10,11; Mr. 14:15; Acts 1:13; 9:37; 20:8).
