UZA
“force”.
(a) Benjamite, son of Ehud (1 Chron. 8:7).
(b) Founder of a family of Nethinim, some of whose members returned from captivity (Ezra 2:49; Neh. 7:51).
(c) Owner of a garden acquired by Manasseh, king of Judah. Manasseh and his son Amon were buried in this garden, near the royal palace (2 Kings 21:18, 26; cf. 2 Chron. 33:20). Its precise location is unknown.
(d) Son of Aminadab, of unknown tribe. During the transport of the ark to Jerusalem on an ox-drawn cart, Uzzah touched the ark to prevent it from falling.
The ark should have been carried on the shoulders of Levites (Num. 4:15). Uzzah’s death was to give evidence to all the people of the holiness of the ark (2 Sam. 6:3-11; 1 Chron. 13:7-14).
(e) Son of Merari (1 Chr. 6:29).
