WICKEDNESS

WICKEDNESS

Evil is a mental state of contempt for justice, righteousness, truth, honor and virtue. There are many terms that are translated as “evil”, since, just like in Spanish, there are different terms in Hebrew.

Evil begins with a disposition of the mind, then it is externalized in acts, which shape the character of those who give themselves to it, marking their destiny. With it we reach a point of no return, with a total perversion of values.

The prophet Isaiah rebels against this, crying: “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who make darkness of light, and light of darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! (Isa. 5:20).

The Lord Jesus revealed the origin of all human evil. The problem is internal, “because from within, from the hearts of men, come evil thoughts… wickedness… pride, foolishness” (cf. Is. 7:21, 22).

The Christian is exhorted not to sin; John shows us the way forward for the Christian who has sinned, and how, under our confession to the Lord, “He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 Jn. 1:9).
