WILL
The will of man pitted against that of God is the essence of sin and the basis of Adam’s fall. The Second Adam, the Lord Jesus Christ, said of Himself: “I seek not my own will, but the will of him who sent me, even the will of the Father” (John 5:30; Heb. 10:7, 9).
Likewise, the Christian is called to do not the will of his flesh and thoughts (cf. Eph. 2:3), but to do that of God from the heart (Eph. 6:6), diligently seeking to know it (Eph. . 5:17), proving His acceptable and perfect will (Rom. 12:2).
Faced with the fall through the exercise of man’s autonomous will, God exercises His redemptive action according to the mystery of his will (Eph. 1: 9), which is manifested in His election of his saints (Eph. 1 :11) (see ELECTION) for
praise of his glory, and to live according to his will, not according to the lusts of the flesh (1 Pet. 4:2).
«The world passes away, and the desires of it; but he who does the will of God remains forever” (1 Jn. 17).
