WINESKIN

WINESKIN

Deep container, made of leather or animal skin, sewn in the shape of a sack, to receive liquids:
water (Gen. 21:14),
wine (Josh. 9:4),

oil and especially
milk (Judg. 4:19; cf. Jb. 32:19; Mt. 9:17).
“Smoke skin” is mentioned in Ps. 119:83, which probably refers to the deterioration of a skin exposed to smoke from a chimney.

The new wine, which is still undergoing a fermentation process, must be put into new wineskins, which will be able to withstand this process, while the old skins would burst (Mt. 9:17; Mark 2:22; Luke 5: 37, 38).
