WINNOWING FORK
The fan was a kind of pitchfork, with which previously beaten wheat was thrown into the air, with which the wind carried the chaff, and the heavier grain fell to the ground (Is. 30:24; Jer. 4: eleven).
It is used symbolically of the judgments of God (Is. 41:16; Jer. 15:7; 51:2), and of the separating power of the testimony of the Lord Jesus (Mt. 3:12; Luke 3:17).
