The Blessing which the Cross affords. | Devotional by Jimmy Swaggart
"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel" (Gen. 3:15).
This is the first mention of the Cross, although in shadow, after the Fall. The Lord told Satan through the serpent that victory would come by the “Seed of the woman.” Ironically, woman has no seed, with the exception of One, Who was the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ bruised the head of Satan, and did so at Calvary’s Cross. That’s where Satan was totally and completely defeated (Col. 2:14-15).
The “heel of Christ being bruised” concerned the suffering, humiliation, and shame of the Cross (Heb. 12:2).
So, as to exactly how the Lord would do this, we now know after the fact; however, at the time that the Lord related this word to Satan, the Evil One knew that a Redeemer would be brought into the world through a woman, but no more information was given regarding how the Redemption would be effected.
God, however, keeps His Promises. For every person who will believe, and irrespective as to who that person is or what they have done, this which the Lord told Satan so long, long ago is now an accomplished fact. Satan’s head was bruised at the Cross, and at great price, we might quickly add.
But here is the clincher:
All of it was done for you and me. Considering that, it is incumbent upon us to have the Blessing which the Cross affords. It is done simply by Faith, which pertains to placing our Faith exclusively in Christ and what He did for us at the Cross, and not allowing our Faith to be moved elsewhere. That is the secret of all blessings (Eph. 2:13-18).
