ARGOD
“strong”. (a) District south of Damascus, and which was part of Bashan, where the giants resided. It had up to 60 cities, over which Og reigned. Og was defeated by Moses, and Jair of Manasseh took the fortified cities, which became part of Manasseh.
It later came to be called Traconite. Today it is called “El-Leyah”. Houses have been found in this district that, due to their large proportions, are supposed to have been built by giants (Deut. 3:3, 4, 13, 14; 1 Kings 4:13). (b) A man, apparently in the service of Pekaiah, who was killed by Pekah (2 Kings 15:25).
