BRONZE SERPENT
Metal serpent that Moses fixed on a pole in the desert. The Israelites who were bitten by fiery serpents were invited to turn toward this figure and look at it, based on the Word given by God that whoever did this would live (Num. 21:8, 9).
Later, the Israelites made her an idol, which Hezekiah broke and destroyed; He had received the name “N’hushtan” (brass) (2 Kings 18:4). Jesus explained the spiritual meaning of the crucifixion he was going to suffer by comparing himself to the bronze serpent lifted up by Moses (John 3:14-15).
Christ, made sin for us, was lifted up on the wood of the Cross and bore the curse in our place. All those who must die from the poison of sin are saved if they direct his gaze of faith to Him (2 Cor. 5:21; 1 Pet. 2:24; Ezek. 45:22).
