JUDAS
(Gr. form of Hebrew “Judah”).
(A) For Judas Maccabeus, see MACCABEES.
(B) One of the apostles, brother of James (Lk. 6:16; Jn. 14:22; Acts 1:13); apparently, he is the same as Lebeus, “by surname Thaddeus” (Mt. 10:3; Mark 3:18.)
(C) One of the brothers of the Lord (Mt. 13:55; Mark 6:3). (See BROTHERS OF THE LORD.)
(D) Judas the Galilean, who in the days of the census of the year 6 AD. raised an insurrection. He was killed by the Romans, and his followers were scattered (Acts 5:37, see CENSUS and CYRENIUS).
(E) A disciple from Damascus who welcomed Paul into his house on Right Street (Acts 9:11).
(F) A “prophet” sent from Jerusalem to Antioch (Acts 15:22).
