PHILETUS
“worthy of being loved”.
Associated with Hymenaeus, he spread the teaching that the resurrection had already taken place, allegorizing it, and denying the true resurrection that is to take place in the future, of which the resurrection of Christ gives the guarantee.
Through the denial of the real resurrection the faith of some had been upset. His doctrine “will eat away like gangrene” (2 Tim. 2:17-18).
