RABSHAKEH
(from the ac. “rab”, “chief” and “sakú”, “being great”: chief of officers, general).
Title of a military leader, associated with the Tartan and with the Rabsaris of Sennacherib’s army; These three officers had command of the expedition against Jerusalem (2 Kings 18:17).
Rabshakeh was then Sennacherib’s spokesman before Hezekiah’s representatives (2 Kings 18:19, 26, 27, 37). It is possible that he was the commander-in-chief of the army.
