SAMA

SAMA

“desolation.”
(a) Son of Zophah, and of the tribe of Asher (1 Chron. 7:37).
(b) A descendant of Esau and also of Ishmael (Gen. 36: 3, 4, 13, 17), he became one of the leaders of Edom (v. 17).

(c) The third son of Jesse, brother of David (1 Sam. 16:9; 17:13), also called Shimea.

(d) One of David’s first three heroes, son of Age the Ararite (2 Sam. 23:11). In verse 33 this Sama is mentioned; 1 Chr. 11:34 and examination of the text allow him to be identified with Jonathan’s father.

These passages from Samuel and Chronicles should be read: “Jonathan, son of Shammah, of Harar.”

(e) Warrior of Harod; one of David’s heroes (2 Sam. 23:25).
