SNOW

It falls in the mountainous area of Palestine, on the hills of Galilee, in Nazareth, Jerusalem, Hebron (1 Mac. 13:22; Wars 1:16, 2; 4:8, 3). It is expected in January or February, although winters without snow frequently occur.

It sometimes reaches thicknesses of 30 cm, but rarely lasts more than a day. At the end of summer it can still be seen on the heights of Lebanon and on the cliffs.

Hermon is crowned with eternal snow. It is frequently mentioned in the Scriptures as a symbol of purity (Ps. 51:9; Is. 1:18; Lam. 4:7; Mt. 28:3), and is placed among the treasures of God (Jb. 38:22). ), who is the one who orders his fall (Jb. 37:6); When it falls, it makes us think of wool, birds, and grasshoppers (Ps. 147: 16; Eccl. 43:18).

Snow is recognized for its full value as a reserve of water for the soil (Is. 55:10).

In summer, snow is used, in certain places, to cool drinks (cf. Pr. 25:13) and also to wash (Jb. 9:30).
