SYRACUSE

Famous city on the eastern coast of Sicily. Founded around the year 735 BC. by people from Corinth and by Dorians, led by Archias of Corinth. She soon became rich and powerful.

Around 413 BC, he destroyed an Athenian fleet of two hundred ships. In 212 BC, the Romans took control of Syracuse.

The ship in which the apostle Paul was traveling as a prisoner stopped for three days in this city (Acts 28:12).
