A famous mountain-climbing resort in the Swiss Alps caters to businesses that encourage their employees to hike up the mountain trails together. High on the list of things that please God is the issue Paul mentions in the Corinthian letter when he says, “It pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe” (1 Cor. 1:21). Gospel preaching pleases God. It is the highest calling one can have.

He began the ninth chapter with the same earnest intercession; what he actually says is, “For I could wish that I myself were damned in hell for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh” [Romans 9:3].
And the eunuch turned to the evangelist and said, “Of whom is the prophet speaking? Is he talking about himself or of some other man? And beginning at the same Scripture, he preached unto him Jesus.” There are some mighty and wonderful things revealed to us in that simple avowal: “And . . . he preached unto him Jesus.”
I hope, believers, your hearts are going up in prayer. What a scene lies before us! If someone had told us that a mass of people would gather to listen to the gospel, hundreds would have doubted it. We have had no gorgeous ceremony to attract the multitudes. There’s not even the sound of the organ.
No struggling woman reached out to touch the hem of his garment, so she might be made whole. And, behold, a woman who was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years came behind him and touched the hem of his garment; for she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be free (Matthew 9:20-21).
