REHOB

REHOB

«open space», «big street».
(a) A city in northern Palestine, near the valley of the upper Jordan (Num. 13:21) and also called Beth-rehob (Judg. 18:28).

There lived Syrians who allied themselves with the Ammonites to fight against David (2 Sam. 10:6).

Probably in the place of Bãniyas.
(b) City on the borders of Asher (Josh. 19:28). Probable identification with Khirbet el-‘Amri.

As for Rehob, which was part of the territory of Asher (Josh. 19:30), it is undoubtedly identified with Tell Berweh. Asher did not drive the Canaanites out of Rehob (Judges 1:31); this city was assigned to the Levites (Josh. 21:31; 1 Chron. 6:75).

(c) Father of Hadadezer, king of Zobah (2 Sam. 8:3, 12).

(d) Levite who joined Nehemiah’s covenant (Neh. 10:11).
