RHODES

“rosebush”. Mediterranean Island; Rhodes is located off the coast of Caria, southwest of Asia Minor. It measures 72 km long and 32 km wide.

There are abundance of orange and lemon trees. Located at a maritime crossroads, the island became an important commercial center, as important as Alexandria and Carthage.

There was the famous statue of “the Colossus of Rhodes”, which served as a lighthouse, measuring 32 m. high, and erected between the years 300 and 288 BC, and which fell due to an earthquake. Paul touched the port of Rhodes during his final return to Palestine (Acts 21:1).
