SCORPION

SCORPION

It is abundant in Palestine, where eight species have been found. An arid region south of the Dead Sea, Acrabim, means “scorpions” (Deut. 8:15). It is mentioned three times in the New Testament.

In Lk. 11:12 the egg, a soft and nutritious food, is contrasted with the scorpion. The promise of Lk. 10:19 probably alludes to the infernal powers (Ps. 91:18).

In Rev. 9:1-11 the evil army of infernal beings that come out of the pit to harm the earth and its inhabitants, have the symbolic form of “locusts with the tails of scorpions.” In a figurative sense they are symbols of a rebellious people (Ez. 2:6).
