SPIDER
(a) (Heb. “akkabish”).
It is known that it is a spider because of the web mentioned. This, due to its fragility, illustrates the confidence of the hypocrite, and also the weaving of the wicked, which will not serve as clothing (Jb. 8:14; Is. 59:5).
(b) (Heb. “semanith”).
It is supposed to actually refer to a lizard that has wide legs like hands. The 1977 revision of the King James Version gives the alternative translation of “lizard” in the margin, retaining the traditional translation of “spider” in the text (Prov. 30:28).
