TRUE

TRUE

Conformity between what is expressed and what is the object of the communication. Throughout the Scriptures what God designates as “the truth” appears.

It is divine, and is above the opinions of men, no matter how prudent and pious they may be. In the OT the admonition is given: “Buy the truth, and do not sell it” (Prov. 23:23).

“The truth” must refer to God, who is true, but who as God is not called “the truth.” This includes everything that can be known about God, whether declared by creation or made known by revelation.

Truth is not simply what is maintained as dogma, but has to be received in the soul. Paul asked the Galatians who had hindered them from obeying the truth (cf. Gal. 5:7).

Judgment will fall on Christianity, “because they did not receive the love of the truth to be saved” (2 Thes. 2:10).

The truth is the royal road to freedom: “the truth will set you free” (John 8:32; cf. v. 36). The truth cannot be separated from the Lord Jesus who is “the way, and the truth, and the life.”

He is the truth, because he is the personal revelation of God to man. This, objectively. Subjectively, the Spirit is the truth, coming from the glorified Christ.

In the three Epistles of John “the truth” is constantly mentioned, and a Christian lady is warned not to accept anyone into her house, nor say “Welcome!” unless she maintains the doctrines taught by the apostles, in other words, “the truth,” which is in Jesus (2 Jn. 10, 11; Eph. 4:21).
